About Amethyst
Amethyst, the traditional birthstone for February, has the chemical composition of Silicon Dioxide, and is a variety of virtuous, meaning “of excellence” quartz with purple, violet, and red-purple coloration, amethyst derives its name from the ancient Greek word amethustos, meaning literally “not drunk,” as it was believed to guard against drunkenness.
The color purple has the highest vibratory rate of all the colors on the visible light spectrum. It is easy to understand how the regal color of amethyst, and amethyst it-self, have long been favored by royalty.
Traditionally associated with purity and piety, amethyst is believed to produce a calming effect, does not collect or store negative energy thus has no need for cleansing, and is often used in the cleansing of other minerals.
